What was your inspiration?

This was a fun little cake for someone that was getting movie tickets as a gift so I thought a box of popcorn would be appropriate! It's nothing too fancy, but I he loved it and that's what counts!

What are you most proud of?

I simply stacked three layers of cake, iced, rolled and cut the stripes of red & white fondant after I slowly piped a TON of little popcorn kernals using my leaf piping tip # 69 (I think). Pretty much just blobs with a little twist & curl until I liked the shape. I left those to harden up while attaching the stripes and label. When all of the other details had been applied, I started to stack the popcorn on and around to get the look just right. It was really fun!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun with it!! Play with all the tips until you find the right one...I went through 6 or 7 until I decided to use the leaf one - it's all trial and error!

Thanks Kymmeeee! That would be a great idea - not to mention if you are not having too many people at the party (or you simply have a lot of time on your hands) this is a good cake idea for mini cakes for each person at the party. I meant to add in the description that when I did the fondant stripes, I actually rolled a bunch of rows of red & white fondant, pressed them together gently, and carefully rolled them flat so as to keep the stripes even as best as possible (not to much pressure & moving slowly). If doing a lot of little ones, this could be good to roll out and cut into strips of the red/white striped pattern to attach around each little cake. You could probably get about three/four strips sections out of each roll-out. Just a thought - thanks for the follow!
