Plarn Totes

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Crocheting

Type of item: Functional

For: Women

Style: Retro / Vintage, Mod, Geeky, Casual

Materials

Department store, grocery plastic bags

What was your inspiration?

Forthcoming discontinuance of plastic bags

What are you most proud of?

My innovation from the pattern to drawstring, striped and inclusion of bread bags and colorful motifs.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Collect your plastic bags. Network among friends, relatives and neighbors that you're recycling plastic bags in order to have sufficient to construct these totes. Any one regular sized tote requires 50-100 bags to complete depending on size of hook (Size 9 to 11.5). Larger hook is my preference.

Since beginning this addictive hobby, I put about 10 hanging in a local beauty shop. None sold. That's fine with me 'cause I sent them to relatives and good friends for b'day presents. They're light and do not cost much to mail. I thought $25 was a good price considering the work in them ... but nope! Everyone thinks they're novel but can't think of what to do with them. I love the ones I've put to use around the house. They stretch to the shape of what they're holding and are EXTREMELY strong and durable ... except around tense heat. We've had a lot of THAT in Texas, but not high enough to melt plastic!
