A stretch? cotton - beautiful to sew with. It was just a remnant so I have no idea what to call it.
What was your inspiration?
We are heading to a fancy dress party. My husband (I decided) is going as Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Carribean! Needed a shirt, couldn't find one in the Op Shop.
I put one of his shirts on the floor and cut the most basic shape I could. I needed to do two fittings.
Then I found a metre of Black fabric, wool blend and just cut down from the top to make the arm holes, fitted it on my husband and sew up the shoulders. hemmed all around and wellah!
What are you most proud of?
It fits well. The sleeves were a little tight so I put gussets in them from the ends. Needed to be wide so that there was a bit of a flare to them. No fabric left so I was lucky.
This turned out better than I expected! I paid $4,50 for the fabric so I am extremely happy it worked.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
If you are not sure - get a pattern! I have done a short course in pattern making, so I was happy to take the risk and it was for a costume so it didn't matter too much.
