Materials

Cake, cake & more cake...tons of Icing, rice crispie mix, chocolate, jolly rnachers, candy root beer barrels

What was your inspiration?

This was a fun pirate themed party where I made a pirate ship in the ocean with a giant octopus taking it down. I made the ocean & 95% of the ship out of cake with the top portions (step ups on the front & rear) out of rice crispie sections covered in icing. I had fun making the lanterns out of jolly rancher canies & fondant so they would look like glass and the ocotpus was also rise crispie covered in fondant. The only thing on the cake that was not edible was the masts - I needed really tall ones so I just found that bamboo sticks worked best to hold the fondant sails.

What are you most proud of?

I liked my lanterns! lol

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Make sure that if the cake needs to travel long distance - you have it stablized in all the right areas. When adding the rice crispie step up portions to the top, I didn't take that into account as added weight so needless to say the trip didn't help and well, luckily there was extra icing to add to the effect of the octopus breaking down the ship! Always take extra icing/fondant/decor to cover what the ride may do!
