Pinwheels in the House

Pattern Info

This project was designed by Kaye Prince.
Info can be found at:

Pinwheels in the House »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Other

Style: Cute, Classic, Traditional

Materials

Cotton fabric, batting, thread

What was your inspiration?

I love to integrate different traditional block patterns together to form new and interesting creations - this was no exception as the blocks for the quilt integrate the traditional pinwheel and log cabin blocks to form something new and fun!

What are you most proud of?

The number of people who have contacted me to let me know that they used this tutorial for their fist quilt - then they send along pictures and they're great!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine! Also know that you can easily take the basics from the tutorial and create a much larger quilt!

I am happy to find this project because it will be perfect for my first quilt alone by myself, without a teacher. I would love to find jelly rolls in Brazil.

This is the perfect project for a charm pack and a honey bun that I picked up on clearance to play with. Thanks !

I would like you to list all of the "ingredients" in linear yards or meters, rather than in the number of charm packs and jelly rolls -- just for those of us who would like to use our stash fabrics!

The website that this pattern was designed fo - Moda Bake Shop - is specifically for patterns that use pre-cuts. That is why they are listed the way they are.

I have been told that a jelly roll is equivalent to approx. 3 yards.

Very nice work, but I need more contrast in the pinwheels. those with contrast, the red/white and brown/white, give the eye somewhere to land and then the log strips are a great frame. I don't mean limit to brown and red, but dark/light have a way of organizing my brain to look and enjoy at a first look, then get deeper into the quilt with more time. Some of the brown triangles in this work have some white in them so they lose some of their effect.

Take a look at the Block of the Month class here on Craftsy. It is free and is run by the super-talented Amy - since it is a video class you will be able to step-by-step instructions for each block and can do it at your own pace. Other than that why don't you could try piecing together some larger squares and then move on to something more complicated.

The easiest one to start with is the pattern Turning Twenty. View my website www.djsdiscountfabrics.com

Try joining a quilting guild. They either offer courses, often free, or can suggest a beginner course. You'll need a few tools, like rotary cutter and mat, but once you make your first sample, you'll be hooked. Have fun

I suggest joining a quilt guild. They can offer courses, often free, or suggest a place to get beginner lessons. They may have a mentoring program to help with ongoing learning. The basics are a must. Have fun

The fabric is Verna by Kate Spain for Moda. If you go to the pattern page for this on MBS you will see all the instructions for this quilt - including how I made the pinwheels.
