What was your inspiration?
I loved the offset log cabin block and the strip piecing method introduced by the teacher, Laura Nownes. I added an extra row of logs to make 8" blocks. I learned the quilting from 2 other Craftsy courses: Leah Day's and Cindy Needham's. I got the nerve to do free motion quilting on a small machine from Leah and from Ann Peterson, another Craftsy teacher. I.LOVE.CRAFTSY!!!
What are you most proud of?
I've learned to be very precise in my piecing -- every little variation has a big effect on the outcome, and this quilt turned out nearly perfect. But I'm most proud of the quilting I did on this project. This is the first biggish quilt I've done with lots of free motion quilting (I used to settle for stitching in the ditch and adding a few squiggly lines here and there). I must say, this quilt is really gorgeous!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Be very precise about your 1/4" seams and trimming and pressing after each round of "logs." It's possible to skip these things, but your finished product will probably be messy and disappointing.
