Leather for the exterior and linen for the interior

What was your inspiration?

I've always been very interested in everything that has to do with handbags. I've also for a very long time wanted to try to make my own but every erlier attempt I've made have been very bad and the handbags have looked very "homemade" in a bad way. I've been just as disappointed every attempt I've made. Then I came across this craftys course. At first I was very sceptical and thought that the result probably would be the same as every other time but when I finally decided to give it a go and really try to learn everything I could from this I gave my self one saturday to begin the course. I think it took about 15 minutes and then I was hooked. Being part of the craftsy course "Design your own handbag" made me realise that I actually might be able to create my very own handbag the way I want it to look and feel and just looking and listening to Brett leading the course gave me the inspiration to do my very best and since that saturday I have made (a month ago) 3 more bags and I just can't stop looking for fabrics and other material for my next handbag. I just love it - it is so much fun!! Thanks Brett and craftsy!!

What are you most proud of?

I think it probably is that I acrually made a bag I can be proud of and then of course it is the interior zipper. . :-)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Take the craftsy course and just give it a go and enjoy every minute of it. I promise you - it is a great feeling to be able to tell people who ask you where you've bought that bag - I've made it!!
The only thing I may not do for my first handbag project is to choose leather as the main material.. It's difficult to work with.. Make at least one bag in another materila first...

You're so brave to start out with leather - and such an inspiration. I can't start my first bag until I get our taxes prepared, because I'm afraid I'll be just like you and start making more and more! ;>)

Elisabeth, thanks for your beautiful work and for hardware resource in HK. Another good hardware resource I use for my handbag creations is a US seller on Etsy called PurseSuppliesRUs.

Absolutely beautiful! I also had so much fun taking this class. Where did you find the screw-in grommets for the big bag?

thanks for your encouragement. I found a lot of diffrent hardware for my handbag making through a website from Hongkong. Its called www.buckelkingdom.com. This is a site where you can order testpackaging of different hardware. The same company has another site where you can buy in bulk.. But since you get somewhere between 4-10 pc of eveything I wanted I thougt it was enough to order from them. It is a great site with very fast delivery and good pricing.. These grommets is actually not screw in - it is a kind where you put them together and then use the "clips"(attached to one of the grommets parts)and then close them. I'm not very good at explaining how they work but if you try I promise it is even easier than you think. Good luck! Have you finished a bag yet?

Thanks again for your support - I means so much when someone else like your work to.. I'm not totally sure if you get notified when I make a comment but I thought I post you a replay just in case you don't see the one I made under my project.. I got the spelling wrong regarding the website I told you about.. It is of course supposed to be www.bucklekingdom.com and nothing else.. I'm really sorry if you tried the other one and didn't find anything... And thanks for the seller on etsy I will try that one for my next bag.. :) I found another seller on etsy while checking on "yours" a seller called 3Dpatternpaper. Looks like they have a lot to. So much fun to have a lot to choose from.. :)

Hi Elisabeth, thanks for the follow up. I checked out 3Dpatternpaper on Etsy and they carry those large screw-in "grommet eyelets" that we saw in our Craftsy class on handbag making. This is the first vendor I have found who carries those! Very exciting.....
