This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Machine Quilting: Free-Motion & More »

Instructions

The pattern is based on New York Beauty style of quilt from Judy Mathersons Mariners Star Compass quilting book.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Infant/Baby

Style: Traditional

Materials

Homespun cotton Cotton sheeting

What was your inspiration?

In 2011 three boy baby's were born. Finally this year a girl was born and I could make a pretty pink quilt. Also inspired by Judy's book.

What are you most proud of?

My accuracy with the stars.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't use a white background ... it's a nightmare to work with. I had to wash the quilt at the end of making as it marked even from basting and pining.

you do take on ambitious projects... but as you say create some smaller simply pieced ones to really practice with... you will be more confident to jump in and of course have fun too!

Thanks Wendy ... this well planned quilt was a breeze after the autumn leaves quilt, but again I was too nervous to try free motion on this. I need to do some small practice free motion to build up confidence in this quiltiing method.

Thanks Pam ... I wanted to emphasis the rays of the stars ... it sort of worked but looks abit chaotic in places.

This is a quilt that can be enjoyed by a female for a very long time. I like that the colors are female but the pattern is attractive for both sexes. With the amount of work that goes into this, I'm glad that she'll be able to use it as a teenager even, ( no little cutsie things she may grow from liking.)
