Materials

My Cabled Rosie Hat from my Craftsy knit hat class. A sand dollar.

What was your inspiration?

I was taking a photo of the Rosie Hat for my Craftsy "Hats Four Ways" class, when I was struck by the fact that the top of the hat reminded me of a sand dollar. I happened to have one, so put it in the photo. It then occurred to me that I should post the photo also to my Craftsy "Shoot It" class.

What are you most proud of?

That I remembered the rule of thirds as I was taking this photo . The hat is slightly off centered and the cables are at a slight angle. The sand dollar is also at a angle, in the right third of the photo.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The background was fine for the hat, but it really didn't do much for the sand dollar, once I added it to the photo. You did notice there was a sand dollar, right?

Great use of the rule of thirds.! I like the composition. I agree about the background. It took a while to notice the sand dollar. It would be interesting to recreate this photo, but play a bit with backgrounds and camera angles.

Thanks! You're right about the idea of playing with different backgrounds. It's certainly something I will try next time.
