What are you most proud of? The family was so amazing/excited when they received this cake. I heard that some tears were shed at all the memories that this cake brought. The birthday celebrant was walked over to the cake and they asked him, "What do you think of the cake, Grandpa?" His response was, "Where's the cake?!" They pointed to the photo album. Not believing them, he then said "That's not a cake!" Proceeded to poke it and said "That's a cake!" I am just really pleased with how something as simple as a birthday cake can bring smiles and lots of wonderful memories. I was happy to be a part of their celebration,

What advice would you give someone starting this project? The cake board was 18" x 26" and was quite difficult to cover solo in one try! There was just over 3 lbs of fondant on the cake board alone. After the third try, I decided to cover the board in three sections. Because I was scoring it to look like a wooden floor, I just made sure to make the sheets in 6" widths. This way the score lines would line up with the seams...and be hidden quite nicely. This worked amazing!

I've been interested in getting an edible ink printer. May I ask what kind you have?

I have a Canon iP4820. I chose the Canon printer because I could remove and clean the print head (also with Epson), as using edible inks tend to clog up the print head frequently.

Did you print your own photos on frosting sheets or have them done? Your cake looks awesome!!

Thanks so much. I printed the photos on frosting sheets. I have an edible ink printer. It's an awesome tool, but the edible ink tends to clog up the print heads easily.

Wow this is terrific. My mum is turning 73 on the 20th of September and this is so awesome.

Looks labor intensive and worth it! I'm sure it will be long remembered by all those who shared.
