Hi..wondering if anyone can help as I am feeling very stuck atm with this painting. This is the first time I have done something like this. I am stuck with the darkest red as u can see on the inner petals. Not sure how to lighten it now an seems I have now painted over the base colour of the rose so I feel the colours r not really consistent. Also that pink petal about the red one that is too red I feel is too light pink. Can anyone give advise as to how to proceed to fix these colour blunders?? Thanx so much x

I only did one decent rose ever with Micah, but I know it's important to use varying tones , e.g. deepen the real dark parts like inside the rose and underneath the petals and shadow parts; also vary the lightest parts and especially use highlights that they stand out. Overall it seems like your rose needs a lot more contrast in colors and values. Doing a rose was a big challenge for me and I'm sure for some others, too. Keep reviewing how Micah works his colors and you'll get it! Your drawing is great which was my weakness.

Hi Dezi, I haven't watched this class yet so I don't know what is offered as far as corrections...you can try a "scrumbling" technique, using a little pigment on a dry-ish brush to add some of that lighter color over the dark red. You can also try mixing some acrylic gel medium with the lighter color, and doing a glaze on top of the darker red. Sometimes though, it's best to just start over because when you start working it too much (especially since the other flowers aren't blocked in yet), it's real easy for your painting to develop a stiff look. I personally like the rose in the state that you posted it.

I like the red rose as is. If any thing You could try to add a little darker green where the flower petals would be casting a slight shadow on the leaves. Maybe a bit of the same in the white flowers? Just my two cents, you did a great job.

I think the rose is already great, maybe just apply the glazing that is presented at the end of the course. Congrats!
