I used LUX by Buffalo Gold Premium Fibers (45% American Bison Down, 20% Cashmere, 20% Silk and 15% Tencel) and it was an excellent choice. I used it doubled to make it a fingering weight yarn but you can use any fingering weight as a single strand. A sock yarn would be perfect as long as you arent knitting for a sensitive bald head.
What was your inspiration?
My son Dan wanted a lightweight simple winter hat and DH put in all his special requirement too and this was the result. Thus, the one that guys really want to wear.
What are you most proud of?
This little watch cap fits the bill perfectly. Having knit and ripped quite a few times before I got it right I can now present you with a pattern for a cap thats super warm, stuffs nicely into your pocket and fits just right. Guess what, the guys actually wear it!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
You can easily adapt this pattern for fatter yarns but remember it won't be as light and small for easy pocket stuffing! just do a swatch with your chosen yarn and change the number of stitches to cast on accordingly.
Choose a natural fiber yarn with the kind of properties that will keep you warm such as Alpaca, Angora, Bison, Cashmere, Merino Wool etc.
