Instructions

Unique cuff/leg in spiraling stripes are knit lengthwise side-to-side rather than circularly. For people with narrow ankles relative to leg size, just twist the bias stripes further when wearing for a nice no-sag fit. Pattern instructions are given for 5 sizes - child small to adult extra large.

What was your inspiration?

My hubby had encouraged me to design socks using a peppermint stick theme. The first designs was Peppermint Sticks Tube Socks (see http://www.heartstringsfiberarts.com/a72.shtm). This follow-on design (aptly labeled "2") is a traditional heeled sock in sizes for child through adult. Enjoy toasty toes for the holidays or tailgating in your favorite team colors or whatever!

What are you most proud of?

Rather than knitting in the round, the cuff/leg is knitted along its length on 2 needles for easy-knitting stripes (you only need to work with one color of yarn at a time), then joined at side seam.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Choose festive holiday colors such as the old-fashioned Christmas combo shown here, your school colors, or even combine orphan balls of yarn in different colors.
