Wedding cake made for friends is a white almond sour cream cake with mixed berry buttercream filling and covered in vanilla buttercream. Cake is wrapped in ribbon and lace selected to match the bride's dress. Peonies and leaves are all hand made form gumpaste.
What was your inspiration?
My friends Emily and Julio wanted a more traditional romantic cake in colors to match their theme (purple, gold and cream). She was having peonies in her bouquet so I offered to make some for her. This was my wedding gift to them.
What are you most proud of?
I loved doing the peonies - they exceeded my expectations, especially once they were on the cake.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Make sure you create a production schedule and give yourself plenty of time to get it all done. Don't leave any step off no matter how simple as you can't make up extra time at the end if you've forgotten something. Also practice making your flowers ahead of time if you've never made them before,
