Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this piece. acrylic paints with gel medium, using a wet palette, built up with many layers over an under-painting on a toned background

What are you most proud of? I really like how the window molding turned out. I had a great deal of difficulty with all of the fabric. I plan on doing another painting and trying this technique again. I really think it is a wonderful way to capture light.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Like Micah said in the instructions take time to build up layers. Don't get discouraged when your own layers go through a stage of not looking so great. They will look better and better as you build up the paint.

What color was your toned background? I like the soft pinkish tone to your finished painting. That is the tone I hope to attain with my own project. It's soft and feminine. Nicely done.

Thank you! I did use a soft pink background. My source photo had quite a bit of pink in it and i wanted to compliment the skin tones of the child. I have been using background colors that work with the source photo instead of creating an obvious mood the way Micah did. It isn't a realistic way of doing a painting either but it does lend a bit more realism to the painting. I think more of a romantic quality. Good Luck with your piece, I hope you will post! I love seeing everyone's work.

I love all the red and purple that you've added to the painting compared to the photo. It gives it a very dreamy quality which works well with the pose/subject. The plants outside the window are also a nice touch as they are descriptive but still loose and energetic in the way they're described.

I'm thinking you have a pretty solid handle on this technique!

I really like this, even though it's a pretty dark painting on the right side it really sets the tone for everything. Giving the lighter tones such a great feel. I love the highlights you have on the little girl too. Really nice job on this.
