What was your inspiration?
I made this necklace as a birthday gift for a former Jr. High School teacher of mine who just celebrated her 99th birthday. She still is in contact with many, many of her former students and there is a small group of my classmates who prepare and share lunch with her several times a year. I wanted to make something that was easy to wear (at 46-in. long it can be slipped over the head without worrrying with the clasp) and that could be worn with many colors, for many types of occasions and also included her ruby birthstone. This was the result.
What are you most proud of?
That she still enjoys her students handiwork!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Give a thought to the jewelry-wearer's age and dexterity when considering clasps, etc. Even I am cursed and confounded when trying to manipulate a teeny, tiny lobster clasp at the back of my neck!
