Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Machine Quilting Negative Space »

Instructions

I reduced the size of the project and made it into a wall hanging which left less negative space. My goal was to try every design shown in the course and others that I've wanted to try. Now it's a great stitching sampler for me to look at when making other quilting design decisions.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Other

Style: Funky, Casual, Mod

Materials

Scraps of cotton from my stash!

What was your inspiration?

First time I've ever pieced a non-traditional quilt. I was inspired by the samples on the course.

What are you most proud of?

My circle stitches which are big in the middle and gradually get smaller to both edges/corners. I like the feathers set in by small paisley quilting. Also that I did this on my home sewing machine as I'm not a long arm owner.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Watch the videos more than once, especially during the actually stitching on the quilt. AFter you sketched and practiced the stitching designs and fit them into a square or rectangle shape then give yourself the freedom to stitching differently than you've stitched before and let go of a need to be perfect.

Love the modern look (must give modern quilts a go) and the quilting. Might have to sign up to the Angela Waters class. Was put off because I too don't have a long arm. I love quilting on my domestic machine.

I quilted a queen sized quilt on a domestic machine before I knew what I was doing. It was in the ditch, but still quilting! If I can do it, you can. I'll never be able to get a longarm machine, so I'm not going to let that stop me. The little bit of quilting I've done just showed me that that was the most fun!
