For the adult I suggest a worsted wt yarn and for the child a sport wt. You will need approximately 175 yards total of many colors.
What was your inspiration?
I wanted to use up leftover yarn that I had in small lengths.

It fits great.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
You can change colors as much as you want.
Its a simple back and forth pattern in stockinette stitch.
