Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Functional

For: Pets

Style: Cute, Casual, Whimsical

Materials

Fleece fabric, minky, duck cloth, heavy cotton leftover from curtain project, clothesline for piping, zipper, 4" foam

What was your inspiration?

Living in a small area with bigger dogs with big bulky dog beds! Instead of two big lumpy dog beds, I wanted one that perfectly fit at the foot of my bed that was big enough for my two huskies. Loki and Rowan love it!

What are you most proud of?

The piping. It was almost an after-thought when I looked at a couple of strips of black fleece I didn't want to waste. I had just picked up some clotheslines for another project, and it clicked into my head. Make some piping! I think it adds a lot to the whole project. I'm also stoked that the leftovers from some recent curtain surgery were the absolute perfect size for the side strips.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Go for piping! All you need are strips of fabric, some rope or clothesline, and a zipper foot to push up close to the edge of the clothesline. You'll love the effect.
