Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Funky, Cute, Classic, Retro / Vintage

Materials

Cotton Fabric from stash and some old duvets.

What was your inspiration?

My daughter, Susan asked me to teach her to make a patchwork cushion as she wanted to give it to a friend for a birthday present. We just gathered various fabrics from my stash and some of her old duvets which suited the colour scheme.

What are you most proud of?

I was so proud of how Susan asked me to teach her how to do patchwork and how much fun it was for us to do it together.
I used a different opening with this cushion... with no buttons or buttonholes :)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Make cushions, they are so quick and fun to sew. You can practice so many different patterns/techniques on a small scale.

Thanks Pam, when I had got into quilting, I was a liitle bit sad that I had left it so long as my sewing machine lay lifeless until my children grew up and left the 'nest'. So it is wonderful to realise it is not too late afterall :-)

Hooray for you and Susan!! My youngest daughter (32 now) started sewing last year to make small handbags for her friends and those days of designing and sewing together will always stand out for me. Now my niece has begun! Just when we feared all "sewists" were getting gray... Susan did a lovely job and her friend must be delighted! Congratulations to your new shared interest, too!

Thanks Pam, it was such fun:) I think Susan has got a little bit of the quilting bug, as she said she would love to make some for her own home and could we do one each weekend she comes to visit! It's great to see our children take up such a wonderful and useful hobby.
