Instructions

I had fun making this, although mine is larger than the pattern. Using 5" squares, mine is about 14" square. I think making it larger actually made the inside seaming easier. The original call for 3" squares. I don't think I'd try anything smaller than that or it would be much harder.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Children

Style: Whimsical, Funky

Materials

3 different cotton fabrics (I used 5" pre-cut squares that were on clearance at Jo-Ann Fabrics, poly-fil stuffing (about 36 oz.), basic sewing stuff.

What was your inspiration?

I like making things. I stumbled on this and thought it was pretty cool. The original tutorial uses 3" squares, I used 5" squares because the pre-cut packages were on clearance & I liked the fabric.

What are you most proud of?

It seems impossible to make. I just think it's a great conversation piece, either as part of your room decor or a child's toy. I may even make another for my grandson's cat, Chewy!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The instructions are pretty simple, just piecing the squares together. The tricky part is the inside seaming. My best advice is when you get to step 6, read it thru first, paying special attention to the first sentence, and then just follow the instructions without overthinking it. Have faith, it works.

It's a big huge 'doughnut-hole' play block. Any wine recommendations? lol Just like life, you don't see too far ahead for a reason...take it one step at a time. Actually sounds fun, but this is coming from a Sudoku fan. I'm going to make 3 HUGE ones so my granddaughters can crawl inside to watch their favorite movies. Geez, that's going to take a truck-load of fiber fill...YIKES! I need a whole other life to do all the amazing projects I'm seeing here on Craftsy. Thanks Gram-I-Am!

A nice big glass of your favorite wine! Yes, it was a good lesson in taking things one step at a time. I also love Sudoku. I also thought about making a giant one for my grandson...til I thought about the stuffing $$. Although the local JoAnns usually have a great Black Friday sale...so we'll see. ;-).
