Patchwork Cat Scratcher Trim

cotton fabrics

What was your inspiration?

The edges of the cat scratching pads are so incredibly ugly as sold that I felt I just HAD to come up with something more attractive to put around it, since this would be visible in the corner of my dining room. So I came up with this simple strip-pieced patchwork which I glued to the edges. It didn't deter my cat from using it one bit.

What are you most proud of?

Getting the cat scratcher to coordinate with the buffet runner, placemats and napkins I used in the same room.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

It is easy. Just do it.

... and what a handsome boy you have! (If he's a girl, - my apologies to her!)

Wonderful idea! My boy, Rupert, has a "scratchybox" which I usually hide behind the furniture. To do this would enable me to get it out into view without feeling embarrassed about it! Then, when I hear scratching noises, I shall know if he's actually using the box or if he's attacking the chairs!
