What was your inspiration?
While in Alaska, I saw skin-sewers making diamond parka-trim like this out of tiny pieces of fur. That was the inspiration for this stole. This stole, featuring a diamond pattern inspired by the trim on parkas, is as easy to make as a scarf. It is so luxurious and soft that you will want to wrap it around yourself while you read in bed. But if you decide to wear it for holiday parties and weddings, you can show it off and be the best-dressed person at the event. I would make a second stole out of less-expensive merino wool yarn to wear for lounging. (You can easily convert scarves to stoles by adding additional repeats in width and length.)
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Make sure you swatch the lace pattern first. If you're new to lace knitting, practice the stitch on worsted-weight yarn in a light, solid color first. Then you will have the confidence to work on fine yarn and needles!
