Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Paper Arts »

Instructions

Remove front and back covers with craft knife, then fold each page in half (outside edge to center). This book only had about 150 pages and the spine was too firm to roll well, so the finished vase didn't make a complete circle. I just taped some dried grasses to the spine and placed it against a wall on a shelf. Voila!

Difficulty:

Category: Paper Crafts

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Funky, Eco-Friendly, Whimsical

Materials

An old paperback book, about 9" high, 5.5" wide. Most of the pages had black drawings on the top, which created an interesting pattern in the finished "vase".

What was your inspiration?

Alton DuLaney, of course! A man full of fabulous, creative ideas.

What are you most proud of?

That lovely, interesting pieces of art can be made from something probably everyone has laying around--books we'll never read again!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Once you try this simply one, branch out by folding the pages in different ways. It's fun, relaxing and gives quick results. Would make a wonderful last-minute, made-just-for-you gift, too!

Very nice. I love the detail on your books pages. I have completed my first book however I didn't think to look for a book with interesting detail like yours. Thanks for sharing. Great job with the accessory and placement. LC
