Instructions

I used the paper pieced star template from this pattern and designed the tree skirt myself. Originally I planned to piece the star blocks into the skirt but time constraints (and lack of mathematical skills LOL) led to appliqueing the stars on instead :)

What was your inspiration?

I really enjoyed making the wall hanging for my in-laws from the same set of patterns and I didn't have a tree skirt. Plus I wanted some free motion quilting practice before starting a big quilting project :)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I should have used coloured thread, silver or a metallic blue would have looked amazing. But I chose white to blend in as I wasn't confident in my FMQ skills. So my advice would be to go for it and be brave with contrasting thread colour!
