Quilting: Paisley Practice

Paisley Practice

Paisley Practice #1

Paisley Practice #1

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Machine Quilting Negative Space »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

For: Other

Materials

Small quilt sandwich (around fat quarter size), regular sewing machine.

What was your inspiration?

I really like the Paisley pattern and the movement it has.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

When sketching, I kept accidentally sketching in a spiral path in an effort to fill in gaps, but I'd find myself trapped. I discovered that if I systematically removed my pins by rows from my quilt sandwich and tried to quilt across and back, this wouldn't happen.

I just love paisley. I like the effect of the spaces between the paisley - I wouldn't change a thing. Terrific work.

Thanks everyone! I'm thinking of trying again but bringing circles to fill in those weird gaps and to replace the awkward paisleys.

It took me the longest just to pin the sandwiches! I'm thinking of getting some fusible batting instead of using my cotton batting scraps.

Thanks! I think I'll back my next one with white so I can see the blending on one side and the contrast thread on the other. It'll be good motivation :)
