Oxygen Tank Cover with Pocket

Instructions

*Using to strands of yarn, leave about a 3 foot long tail, do 2 feet of knifty knitting, then single crochet around bottom evenly.
*To take off loom, use the knifty knitter hook to take off first loop and hook the crochet hook into the loop. Chain 1 and transfer the next loop off the peg and onto crochet hook, chain 1, all around until project is off the loom.
*To make the top narrow opening, chain 1 and do decreasing crochet all around the top (decreasing crochet is pull up 1 loop and then another loop in the next stitch so you have to loops on crochet hook, then pull yarn through both loops on crochet hook.) Repeat decrease crochet around until opening is about 3 inches across. Finish off.
*Pocket- chain 26, sc in each chain starting with 2nd chain from crochet hook. chain 1 and turn and sc across. Repeat until the pocket is as wide as half of the Oxygen Tank Cover. Finish off.
*Attaching pocket: sew it on with 2 strands of yarn, being careful to not sew through the whole project. Make sure it is on tight, do it however you need to to make it snug against the project.

**Decorate how you wish with bows or ribbons, personalize it.
**It is ok that it doesn't reach the bottom of the oxygen tank because there are times the tank is set down in water or snow and the cover would get wet.
**You can use a variety of colors, for different seasons and holidays, can be solid, dark colors for him, anything. **Let's make being on oxygen a little less tiresome for people. What was your inspiration?

This idea came about because I have a friend on oxygen and the tanks were banging around in her car and then when she got in her wheel chair she had to hold the tank in her lap which froze her hands in the winter. This cover makes the tanks quiet, cozy and decorative. The pocket is new- she needed somewhere to put the plastic tubing because it was dragging and tangling. Now she can just roll it up and stick it in the pocket. Also she can keep her cell phone in it for emergency, it will be nearby.

What are you most proud of?

The fact that I made her life easier plus her telling me how the people admire her oxygen tank covers.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The project is a basic pattern. Make it your own, choose what you think are good color schemes, and if you have a fresh idea to add to your project, go for it! Don't try to be perfect- everything that you do, even as compensation for a so called mistake, makes the project unique to you. Relax, have fun, don't rush, and find motivation in how you will make someone's life just a little more comfortable. If you are a praying person, I suggest you pray for the people who will benefit from your project. ;-)
