Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Beginner Serging: Machine Basics & Techniques »

Instructions

I used a Size 2 t-shirt for a pattern, and used the shirt to practice some of the overlocker stitches - mainly coverstitch, which has always given me trouble.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Infant/Baby

Style: Cute, Casual

Materials

knit fabric, ribbon, overlocker, threads, decorative varegated thread

What was your inspiration?

I wanted a project to practice the difficult bits on - coverstitch and flatlocking. I can't say I've mastered either, but I have learned a bit.

What are you most proud of?

I did actually get the coverstitch working! ...Until I tried giving it a decorative thread, then it all went horrible. But it worked for attaching the ribbon!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Organise the project so you can do all the steps that require a particular stitch at once, then re-thread and do the next part...

Decorative threads can be really tricky! I applaud you for trying them out and also for using your cover stitch capabilities. You'll be perfecting these stitches in no time!
