Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
The Art of Cloth Dyeing »

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

For: Unisex

Style: Funky

Materials

Over dyed to experiment. One started out as basic blue over dyed with strong orange. The other 2 were a periwinkle made with Mixing Blue and Boysenberry - one over dyed with golden yellow and the other with a blue green I mixed. I like them but the results surprised me. One of the other ones was yellow over dyed with golden yellow with a touch of boysenberry. The other 2 started out as strong orange and golden yellow over dyed with mixing red. Still learning.

What was your inspiration?

Just trying to understand what colors do when they are over dyed.

Thank you. It is all learning lessons. The one in which the pink appeared surprised me. The circles are kids erasers from a dollar store. There were also flower erasers that I haven't tried yet.

Going to buy some giant washers today. I bought Jane's "Art Cloth" a year or two. It is just barely staring to make sense to me. Took fabrics out of the dye baths this am. A couple of very nice surprises and some that will be over dyed yet again.

All of your results are intriguing, but I'm really taken with the circle one. The colors aren't conventionally pretty, but I can see using this in a quilt. I love how the overdyeing adds complexity and richness.
