Materials

We started with 4 50 gallon barrels from local company. It held bleach in it for cleaning there food area! Took 2 of the barrels and put them, one on the other, when one filled from the roof, it would fill the other. Same idea would work with using the water for watering my plants. Used old hoses for hook ups, and bought a few pieces for the spout and valves. "Saved a lot of water. Had 2 sets hooked up to the eaves, and gave us the ability to water the front and back plants,

What was your inspiration?

We wanted to save water and money. Accomplished both, since the Landlord couldn't understand how the water bill was so low and the yards so lush and green.

What are you most proud of?

Taking care of flowers and the container garden of vegetables with using on the 4 barrels. Also the comment from the landlord.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Remember that gravity is what gives you the water, and remember the elements can hinder the project, if not attended too.

My fiance created it using 4 bleach barrels from the local pool, and spouts and tubes from the store, so sorry there are no specific plans

Remember 1 inch ( 2.54 cent. ) of rainfall on a 1000 sq. ft ( 92.78 sq meters) roof equals 6ooo gallons (22712.00 litres) of usable water. Its a lot of water and are thinking of adding a few more off the garage!

We too have a rain barrel to tend to the pots and gardens! Saves so much in our water bill and reusing at the same time!
