Instructions
I first purchased 2 pillows, which I took apart and remade into one large cushion shape. Then I used strips and squares of purchased panelled fabric and interspersed the squares with strips of fabrics from my stash. This project is for my Grandson Oscar's birthday, he has Down Syndrome and loves bright colours and things he can recognise easily as his own.Difficulty:
Category: Quilting
Type of item: Functional
For: Other
Style: Mod, Whimsical, Cute, Funky
Materials
Polyester Cotton fabric and batting.
What was your inspiration?
I had difficulty in deciding what to give to Oscar for his birthday as I don't get to see him ver often, and during a discussion at my quilting group one of the ladies made the suggestion of a bright cushion, so I took the idea and ran with it.
What are you most proud of?
The finished article with it's bright colours and shapes and the fact that I was able to work out measurements etc. and have it all come together to look so good.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Just go with it, cut and sew and add or subtract until you get it to look like you want it too. This is an easy project to do, but gives lots of satisfaction when you know you have made it up yourself. There is no fiddly measuring, or right or wrong way of doing this and yet most children would love a big bright cushion of their own like this. The options are endless by using different types of fabric, of which there are no ends to what you can do with your own imagination.
