What materials did you use? Batiks. 10 mottled colors for the braids. Oriental style style batik for the outside border & the separator bands. Black & gold batik for the inner border, small triangles, edging for the separator bands & the binding. Coordinating multicolor batik for the large top & bottom triangles, as well as for the backing.

What are you most proud of? This is my third small quilt & my first "braid" style quilt & I'm very pleased with the way it came out. My biggest challenges were 1. figuring out how to use the oriental fabric that I fell in love with & 2. selecting the braid fabrics. The planning took way more time than the actual construction. I love the bright colors. I throw it across the couch & it cheers me up every time I walk into the living room.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Take your time picking out the coordinating fabrics for the braids. If you look through Jane's book, you will see many themes & color variations. This is not a hard pattern. Once the fabric is selected, the quilt it can be cut & assembled fairly quickly.

I love your color choices. I used a French Braid to design a liturgical stole for our new pastor, and yes, the planning was much harder than the piecing.
