Quilting: Orbs
14 kudoz

Orbs

Instructions

Weaving - tear fabric into 1/2 inch strips. basket weave these onto a fusible interfacing. Use different size bowls for sizing circles. Crochet embroidery thread and sew onto fabric.

Once again - use your imagination. I am always amazed how these turn out.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Retro / Vintage, Funky

Materials

material, embroidery, beads.

What was your inspiration?

I was introduced to journal quilting and wanted to do some abstract work. The Orbs were done at the same. The crochet of red embroidery thread was an added detail. The weaving of the brown embroidery thread, with added gold beads look like dew drops on a screen.

What are you most proud of?

How unique each is. Remember I am just a beginner (in less than a year).

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Practice weaving fabric. Use different patterns and colors, pale and vivid. Plus it reminds me of making May day baskets in school. :-)

These are really interesting! Do you stitch down the sides of the woven strips or just let them fray?

I let them fray. I do iron it onto fusible interfacing so they are pretty secure. :-)

Fabulous concept piece! Very creative. It gives me some ideas to take off from, but this is very nice use of textiles!
