This project uses fabric manipulations covered in the course, and one other: rolling up a long strip of fabric (bag handles to-be) into a tight 'sausage' and then tying rubber band around it to create a resist that makes the wavy lines. The pieces were first dyed with primary colours, then overdyed with 'midnight blue'. The bag handles used the same manipulation again, but in the opposite direction - without this, it would have a graded effect. The other pieces were 'scrunched' during the overdye process, regardless of manipulation used previously.
N.B. I had anticipated to be able to make a single bag out of these pieces, assuming that the overdyeing would create sufficient uniformity for design harmony. That wasn't the case: I will now be making three bags!! Will add pieces as time allows... This project is really just to share some initial attempts at cloth dyeing, following class instructions. Oh, thank you, I think this is rather generous of you! But it is possible to see the enormous potential of this craft - there is something so powerful about colour, and combined with texture even more so.! :- )
