Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Adventures in Double-Knitting »

Instructions

I designed these mittens based on techniques learned in the course.

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Children

Style: Casual, Cute, Traditional

Materials

Mission Falls DK yarn

What was your inspiration?

My inspiration was two-fold: techniques learned from Alisdair Post-Quinn in the double-knitting class; and a design contest with the theme of geometry on ravelry.

I've called these "On Point Mittens" because I was playing around with point symmetry for the creation of the large diamond pattern.

What are you most proud of?

I'm most proud of having figured out on my own how to close off the top of the mittens and thumb. It's logical and easy enough, but I was pleased because you have to be in "double-knitting" thinking mode to figure it out.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Do a double-knit swatch to determine pair numbers. And always think of and count the stitches as pairs.

Congratulations on your own DK design! The mittens are cute and I hope you enjoy wearing them - next winter! (I've had enough cold weather for this year and am ready for spring. :D
