What was your inspiration?

A quick knit for your sweetheart (or yourself),this retro necktie takes advantage of the tapering effect created by chevron stitch. The necktie is worked in two separate sections for symmetry, then joined at the back of the neck with 3-needle bind-off. Decreases flow organically within the pattern so that the necktie fits nicely under a button-down collar. A crisp dk weight yarn makes this tie appropriate for the office, although I would love to see this in a hand-painted silk. Maybe I'll have to make one for myself, too!

What are you most proud of?

I love the way the necktie tapers without any visual changes in the pattern. Most knitted neckties look bulky, but Old Fashioned is polished and crisp enough that my husband will wear his to the office.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Remember that you will need three knitting needles to work the 3-needle bind-off. Also, I found it easier to match up to a stockinette stitch gauge. Trying to measure gauge on a chevron angle is tricky!
