I'm a Portrait and Still Life Artist

What was your inspiration?

I've been a portrait painter for many years (oil paint). But, my preference is still life. I love to paint textures. The dry old books, and filtered light of the handkerchief.

I wasn't sure if Craftsy was the place to show my art work. But then again, why not? I'm a person of many parts. I love to paint as much as I love to sew.

What are you most proud of?

I studied with a number of great teachers in the 1970s. They are well known, and if you are as old as I am you'll recognize them by name: Beverly Miller, Bill Alexander, Buck Paulson, Bob Warren, Gary Jenkins, and Lucian Lupinski. I taught oil painting classes during the 1980s and 1990s.

In the 1950s every little girl wanted to be a movie star. But, I wanted to be a painter. My very first sketch was a self portrait and I made sure I had a big smile with lots of teeth showing. My sister refers to my first portrait sketch as, "ninety teeth." We still laugh about it.

It really is a lovely painting - and th 1st painting I've come across in projects. I agree with 2strings, it truly does invoke the other senses also. Great job :)

2strings. Great review from you, and so appreciated. If you ever write books, I want to buy them to read. What a wonderful comment--almost made me cry!

Stunning! I can smell the musky books and the faded fragrance of violets lingering on the delicate handkerchief. It's really fabulous when you have the talent and skill to stimulate senses other than visual. Your work is amazing. This piece is so filled with emotion for me. I'm totally awestruck. So glad you achieved your childhood dream, but talent of this magnitude will not be denied.
