I used scraps of blue, red, brown, and cream colored fabrics. I pieced everything since there was no jellyrolls, turnovers, or charm packs when I started this project in 2002.
What was your inspiration?
This project was my very first after a one-on-one tutorial with a friend. She showed me how precision should be used when it comes to piecing and putting the pieces together to make a perfect quilt. I found the Ohio Star block challenging and so I decided to make a lap quilt without help.
What are you most proud of?
Finishing this lap quilt after 8 years is what I am proud of. I started this project when we lived in Turkey in 2002. I took the project with me to Japan, Germany, and now in England. I finished the quilt on October 23, 2010.
I wasn't taught how to bind, and I didn't even know how to cut the bias strips. Thanks to professionals and their publications I was able to follow their step-by-step instructions.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
As most quilters do, take one block at a time. Who knows when you'll finish one especially if you have a full time job outside home ;-)
