Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Clean & Simple Cake Design »

Instructions

The chevron technique used in Jessica Harris' "Clean & Simple Cake Design" Crafty course was a huge help when it came to making the construction stripes on the side of this cake! This was a last minute design idea that I decided to create on the side of the cake and it was all with the help of the "wax" paper technique in the course. Thank you, Jessica, for such a cleaver idea! ~ Diana

What was your inspiration?

I was toying around with several ideas for this construction cake and I really wanted to add the yellow and black stripes that you see in just about every construction site. After seeing the Chevron technique in Jessica's Crafty course, it gave me the idea to add it to the side of the cake. It was a last minute decision and a rushed job but I did it.

What are you most proud of?

Jessica's course couldn't have come out at a better time! Had I enough time, my stripes would have come out cleaner. Either way, for a rushed job, and being my first time applying this technique, I'm happy with the end result.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I would advise anyone using this technique for the first time to make sure you have just enough shortening on the wax paper. The first time I applied the shortening, I wiped too much off and my pieces slid off when I lifted the paper. Afterwards, it was a breeze and a fun project! It is definitely something I will use again!!!
