Nuggets and Brass

Instructions

Working with the magnetic clasp was a bit of a challenge. The magnets were not only attracted to each other, they were attracted to my pliers as well when I was attempting to attach the clasps with jump rings..

Difficulty:

Category: Jewelry

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Funky, Romantic, Whimsical

Materials

Turquoise small rice and nugget beads, 2 Turquoise and brass focal beads from Nepal, Lapis Lazuli rectangles and roundelles. Gold-filled daisy spacers and magnetic clasp, Beadalon beading wire.

What was your inspiration?

The two Turquoise and Brass focal beads from Nepal. I like the combination of Turquoise and Lapis that is often seen in jewelry from this region. I also like the combination of the random and rough Turquoise nuggets with the smooth, cut and polished Lapis beads.

What are you most proud of?

The combination of colors and textures.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Some of my friends like the magnetic clasps because they are easy to fasten and unfasten when you're reaching behind to put on or take off a necklace. However, from experience, I have learned that they are not a good choice for bracelets as the magnets have a tendency to fasten themselves to other metal objects such as shopping carts, baby stroller handles, even refrigerator doors. It's easy to lose a bracelet this way.
