Pattern Info

Pattern info for this project can be found here:
the 10 minute block by Suzanne McNeill »

Instructions

Be prepared to 'fiddle' a lot with the block.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Traditional

Materials

Moda layer cake.

What was your inspiration?

I saw this on You Tube and had to give it a try! Later, I found the book in my local quilt shop and bought it for future project inspiration.

What are you most proud of?

I finished it in about two hours, including the borders. Now, I just need to add the binding. The quilting went a bit awry when I started with metallic thread and had a devil of a time with breakage. I soon switched to regular thread to save my sanity!!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Be patient when lining up the blocks and the inside diamond, its a bit fiddly.

Love your colors...made this quilt last year as a Christmas present from 10 min. blocks, also found on YouTube. Loved it and have the book plus a second publication by the same author, really fun. You are going to be one of my favorites to follow, your work is very special. Thanks for sharing

I love your new project. Your stitching is so perfect, I could never do that. I admire people with your kind of talent. I'm just starting at piecing quilts together. I am too afraid to quilt so I normally tie my quilts. Hopefully one day soon I can take classes in quilting . I'm self taught at all that I do craft wise. Anyway, Thanks for sharing your beautiful art work.

You're welcome. Keep practicing your quilting, you will get better with time. Do some stitch in the ditch or straight line echoing around your piecing. It looks great and is fun to do! That's where I started.

Wonderful quilt! This is the same pattern I used on my trick or treat quilt. I didn't curve my edges on the middle blocks but think I will the next time I use the pattern.

Thanks. I am going to make one with 5" squares and leave the centers square.

It's very pretty and great for the holidays. I can see that getting those curves to come to the edge of the block at the exact same point would be very tricky, but to finish in only two hours is pretty amazing. Lovely quilting, too.

The center diamonds just happen when you open the block up! No trying to get curves at all. That comes from rolling the bias edge inward and stitching it down. I used invisible thread and a tiny zig zag stitck. Worked great!

Wish I could do feathers like that! It's lovely! I love the backing fabric too.

Feathers are fun once you get the hang of the shape. Trust me, I didn't post the photo of the wonky one...
