What was your inspiration?
I made this quilt as I'm demonstrating my Dresden techniques at the Sydney and Canberra Stitches and Craft shows this year. I used lots of different Westalee rulers to make this quilt.
What are you most proud of?
I'm most proud of the quilting. I was torn on how to quilt it, I had put a layer of wadding behind each Dresden and quilted around each one. I cut away the excess batting then sandwiched my 3 layers. Then I had to decide how to quilt it.... I thought what would Cindy do ;) So I set about quilting Every stinkin Seam, (including every wedge of the dresdens.) I was worried that the Dresdens would loose their 'puff' but the batting worked beautifully and I'm extatic with the finished product! With the lines quilting (I did this free motion as demonstrated in Cindy's class) I started out with the lines roughly 1/4" apart but after I finished the first block I felt they were just that bit too far apart so I went back and stitched inbetween, so the lines are around 1/8" apart. The borders all have figure 8 style quilting (like in Angela Walters course)
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
I loved every second of this quilt :) Thanks Cindy for giving me the confidence to try something new! I would normally have just hand quilted it or stippled it. I'm so please I went the extra mile!
