Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Accessory

For: Unisex

Style: Traditional, Classic

Materials

Winter white upholstery fabric, black/white printed cotton, polar fleece for batting.

What was your inspiration?

I was inspired watching Vanessa Wilson's tutorial--she teaches at Craftsy.com and her website is Crafty Gemini. Vanessa has a no-fail process for measuring and sewing square or rectangle fabric boxes. I watched her tutorial on making a cover for a sewing machine. I thought it was going to be difficult, but Vanessa makes it so simple to do.

Also I get inspired cruising fabric stores. The best part of cruising is touching fabric. A winter white upholstery fabric appealed to me immediately. The fabric has a firm hide (backing), yet the right side is super soft. Perfect fabric to build a sturdy, practical wine tote.

I made a total of 4 wine totes for a shop display, Numbers 1,3,5,7

What are you most proud of?

I'm pleased with the simple decoration on this bag--suitable for a gal or a guy. I like featuring 1 number. Just one. It's a classic black accent on a white background.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Check out Vanessa Wilson's online classes with Craftsy, and her website at Craftsy Gemini. What a great teacher. That's how I learned.
