A previously painted nightstand in serious need of help!

What was your inspiration?

I found this nightstand at a garage sale and it just called and begged for attention! I wasn't sure what it was going to be when I was done, but KNEW it had a "higher purpose" than just an ugly nightstand. Then the thought just came to me, as most of my ideas do - probably when I was drinking a cup of coffee! More pictures at www.mixedupmediaartist.blogspot.com

What are you most proud of?

The color combination turned out perfect, the design came together without a hitch. The challenge was what to do with the left side - the one with the burlap bag. I had considered using an actual coffee bean bag but didn't have the patience to wait for one to arrive in the mail. I like that you can also use this side to store magazines or towels. I'm also really proud of the trompe l'oiel doily on the top. I pressed the original doily into wet paint and was amazed that it picked up the textured design (email for more pictures or go to my blog to see it). I was really excited when I found the coffee fabric in my stash and knew I had to line the drawers with it - it goes perfectly! This is really going to be hard to let go of! What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I sand my pieces down to the bare wood - every inch of it. You MUST use a good sealer/primer (Kilz) or you may end up with problems. I just used a run-of-the-mill primer on this and bad things happened! "Something" leaked through and I ended up having to re-seal and re-paint those areas.
