What was your inspiration?
My husband loves the NY Yankees and I wanted to make him a quilt. I intended a wall hanging but the design kept growing. He wanted to feature the MVP player of the year for every year that the Yankees won the series. He did all the research going back in the 1920's and for many of the early years, he had to decide who the MVP player would be because it did not exist then. We searched for photos of the older players on the internet. The corner blocks have photos of his all time favorite players. The center motif was from a really really old baseball banner he had from his childhood that I drafted. The center motif, the baseballs, the stars and the photos have trapunto.
What are you most proud of?
The final product looked more stunning that the computer design.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Patience...The entire quilt took over two years to complete.
