Quick-Strip Paper Piecing »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Classic

Materials

Batik fabrics, wool batting

What was your inspiration?

I am a beginner quilter but have always loved colour and admired the NYB block. A couple of weeks before I started the course, I went to a quilt show and picked out a few batik fabrics. I had never bought batiks before and they were on sale. I didn't have a project in mind. I have been so lucky. I think the colours went together well. No auditioning, just luck!

What are you most proud of?

I never thought I would be able to paper piece. I'm sure I could never have learned from a book. Peggy's videos make it so easy. I don't enjoy carefully cutting out lots and lots of small pieces of fabric, so this method is perfect for me.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you haven't paper pieced before, try it. It's addictive!

You really had a great time playing with your batik fabrics in all those wonderful color combinations! It's hard to believe you are a beginning quilter. I can't wait to see what you make next!

Thank you! Initially, it was going to be a cushion cover, but I found I couldn't stop making the blocks, so it has ended up as a wallhanging!
