What advice would you give someone starting this project? If the ties are different widths, you will need to make them a consistent size before you start sewing. Open the tie backs up...they have a lot of fabric in them! Keep the points of the ties intact. You won't have to do anything to finish them...they are already finished!

You can get the pattern on Craftsy, if you go to patterns, you can type in Dresden Tie Memory Quilt. The pattern is $9. It has lots of pictures and complete instructions! You can go to the link directly: http://craftsy.me/1IPa0Ps just cut and paste.

what did you use for the central circular boss to get it evenly round?

I measured the opening, then found a bowl in my cabinet with the same dimensions. You can use any round object and trace around it.

Such a fabulous idea. With the neckties, you already feel half the difficult part of the job is done for you. It will be fun working on this. Thanks.

I agree! All the points are beautifully finished because you don't touch them at all!
