What advice would you give someone starting this project? If the ties are different widths, you will need to make them a consistent size before you start sewing. Open the tie backs up...they have a lot of fabric in them! Keep the points of the ties intact. You won't have to do anything to finish them...they are already finished!

Thanks! I have had so many positive reviews and pattern requests that I published a pattern for it. You can find it under Dresden tie quilt in the craftsy store!

One of the things that I like about this tie quilt is that it really shows off the ties...it doesn't disguise them. It's a big beautiful sunburst of ties, and it's not really that hard to do! It's not necessary to cut the ties up completely, you leave the tie point intact, so you have a nice crisp finish to your starburst!
