What are you most proud of? The decorative cabochon (cinnamon bunn) out of navy microsuede and cotton rope, preparing it like piping, and then winding it around and sewing as it grew bigger. I put a backing of navy microsuede on the finished cabochon, and handstitched it to a microsuede pocket for the front flap closure of the purse. I left an opening two fingers big at the top of the cabochon to hide a credit card or folded money. The cabochon is a roomy 4 x 4 circle inside. Then, I put a second hidden compartment inside the purse along the side seam and towards the bottom of the purse. A decorative silver spider marks the location of the compartment.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Next time you make a purse or shopping tote, take some extra time to build-in a secret compartment. I'd like to see/hear about your ideas.

Hi TanjaH. You are a sweet gal. I'm glad to hear you like the secret pockets. Let me know if you find another cool place to put a hidden pocket.

Love the secret compartments! I made a bag with piping along the front edge separating the top and bottom sections, and I included a secret pocket behind the piping on one side. It was nice to have easy access to things like my phone, keys, or a card, but it didn't break up the line of the bag.

Hi bibliophi893335. Thanks for sharing your secret pocket behind the piping. Very cool to get the piping involved in disguising the secret pocket. I love your idea. Hope to hear from you again soon.

Is there a pattern available for this bag?

Hi there Lash and Thrash. No pattern for my navy suede bag. I just designed it on the fly. My inspiration for the hidden cabochon pocket came about when I made drapes and cabochon tiebacks for 3 bay windows in my old Victorian house we restored. If you like my bags and others, you'll have to come to my studio and we'll build some. Check out my house and studio at
