What was your inspiration?
I've just come back to sewing after many years and wanted to learn essential techniques and make a garment with a good fit. I took a commercial pattern with only two pieces and added a centre back seam, zip and slit. I wanted to know how to make a toile and fit it properly. I decided to play around with colour and found this funky fabric. Rather than going for black waistband and lining, I opted for bright pink to provide a fun contrast.
What are you most proud of?
Like Diana, I can be over-eager and make mistakes so I was patient and took my time. I'm proud that I made a toile - I then had confidence that the finished garment would fit and this meant that I worked on the real thing slowly and carefully. I'm also pleased with the fit and the effect of the contrasting lining and waistband.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Watch the course all the way through, then watch each section before you start to sew. Take your time and follow the excellent instructions. Unpick and restitch anything you're not happy with. Follow Diana's advice and enjoy every step of the process.
