a vintage pencil box,found natural items, hot glue and all pupose glue, and scrapbook papers(CathWren Character Construction)
What was your inspiration?
My inspiration was a similar item on Character Construction website. I just happened to have my dad's original pencil and chalk box from when he was in art school. Funny story about that: I had decoupaged an old postcard on the front of it in junior high some 40 odd years ago after a trip to Boston. It was a postcard of an old schooner I bought as a souvenir! I had seen a similar item in a department store but couldn't afford one. I painted the rest of the box gold metallic and aged it with some Ranger distress ink. The box is from the 40's! It has a new life now...
What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of the fact that I took a little something that my dad used every day and kept it from being forgotten. Miss him...
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
An empty cigar box or a wooden box from Michael's would work just as well. Everything else can be found in your yard or the park. Use free downloadable clipart for background paper. Graphics Fairy has a lot of beautiful free clipart.
